Small group Bible study for 14-18 year olds
‘Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.’ Matthew 7:24
What is CYFA?
CYFA is the name of a small group Bible study run for 14-18 year olds
that meets in 'the Factory', Raynes Park:
- Every Sunday from 5-6:30PM
- Every other Friday for socials from 8-10PM
What is our aim?
Quite simply, our aim is to provide the firmest gospel foundation possible for young people.
14-18 is a crucial year group; it is a time of bombardment by new and accessible temptations and challenges to faith and a time when young people will be seeking greater independence from parents until ultimately they leave school and home for University or a career.
Our aim is to ensure that each young person who attends CYFA understands the meaning of the Gospel, that Jesus Christ is Lord and that through teaching this message faithfully we pray that God will ensure that our young people have the strongest foundation possible to continue in faith no matter what life throws at them…
‘The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had is foundation on the rock.’ Matthew 7:25
How do we do it?
CYFA is run by a core team of voluntary leaders (supported by the Church staff) who are, without giving too much away, in their late twenties and early thirties. The aim of each Sunday session is to mix social time with time devoted to studying God’s word and praying.
Each Sunday session consists of an interactive Bible study (approx 40 minutes) which is split between a straight talk and small and large group discussion sessions. This enables everyone the opportunity to explore the Bible, ask questions and find the answers. This is followed by a time of prayer to seek God’s help in putting the things we have learnt into practice.
What else happens?
In addition to our Sunday time together we also have a social every other Friday. In general these are times where the leaders tend to embarrass themselves by trying to be ‘down with the yuff’ (I rest my case!).
We also try to meet with the older members of the group on a one-to-one basis. This work is genuinely rewarding for both leader and CYFA member and is invaluable in helping both to grow in knowledge, faith and love.
So, if you would like to find out more about God and the Gospel and you are aged 14-18 or know someone aged 14-18 who might be interested please contact Simon Martin.
