Christianity Explored course
Most adults have never had the opportunity to hear the message of Jesus Christ explained in language they understand. ’Christianity Explored’ is a 6-week course that does ’exactly what it says on the tin’ - offering a chance to explore and seriously question the essentials of Christianity.
Over the six weeks, we look at a historical account of Jesus’ life in the Bible. and explore the implications of his claims, teaching, death and resurrection. We aim to give plenty of opportunity for open questions and discussion, while addressing a core question together each week, for example:
- Who did Jesus claim to be? Does the evidence match what he said?
- Why did God become man?
- Why did Jesus have to die?
- Can I be 'good enough' for heaven? What's the alternative?
Inevitably, these questions tend to spill over into many others! - "How God can exist if there is suffering in the world?",… "Is the Bible historically reliable?",… "Hasn’t science disproved Christianity?",… "Aren't all religions means to the same end?",… All questions are welcome.
We meet as a group weekly for six weeks. Venues vary according to when and where is most convenient. On midweek evenings, we’ve tended to meet in the function room of a local pub. Daytime, we’ve often met in someone’s home (e.g. as part of the Mum’s Bible Study). Our time together usually includes some food, a short look at a few paragraphs of Mark’s gospel, a short talk on a particular question, followed by time for more informal questions and discussion.
- No pressure is applied,
- No question is off-limits,
- No praying or singing takes place,
- No previous knowledge of the Bible is assumed.
Each week's session is self-contained, and there is no need to commit to attending the whole course. That said, many people choose to keep coming back, and there are benefits to getting ’the full picture’.
