Our history...
Emmanuel Fulham has been meeting regularly on Sundays since May 2007. However, that was not the beginning…
In September 2005, a group of Christians living in and around Fulham began to explore how they might together serve the community where they lived as Christians. At that time they were all part of another 'church family' meeting regularly in central London (Christ Church Mayfair).
Over time, we have organized a variety of activities and events around Fulham for friends, colleagues, and the wider community. These have grown to include:
- Regular children's events - Afternoons packed with fun & games, a comedy sketch and a children's tea with one truth about Christianity simply explained. We've run these in borrowed premises each year for Advent, Christmas, New Year, Pancake day, Good Friday, Mother's day,…
- Parenting seminars - Those of us who are parents - whether Christians or not - wrestle with how to nurture our children, what values to impart, what character-traits and talents to encourage… We got together in Plum to discuss practical Biblical wisdom on parenting, and to support one another.
- Holiday clubs - A Narnia-themed holiday club in the Autumn half-term introduced the kids to Jesus as King, and a Sunday afternoon family service meant the whole family got to see what had been going on.
- Christianity Explored Courses - Our experience has been that few people have the chance to hear Christianity explained without jargon in a setting where there can be honest dialogue and questioning. So we ran a few informal courses for people interested in getting the full story on who Jesus is, why he died, and why that matters. For more information see Christianity Explored.
Over time, interest has grown. Some people became Christians, others were curious to find out more. We felt it appropriate to begin meeting regularly as 'church' in Fulham, and so - with the support of the Christ Church Mayfair congregation - Emmanuel Fulham!
We are very grateful to the Church Council of St Etheldreda's Parish church for their support, and the use of the church facilities. Likewise, the support of the Bishop of Kensington in establishing this congregation has been invaluable.
